@Tony, the more specific you can be in your testimony, the better. Avoid statements like "not very long" or "not too far." Prior to your hearing think about (and write down if you have to) specifics about your capacity to sit, stand, walk, etc.

Thanks for the helpful tips. I am getting ready for my own disability hearing, 2nd appearance before the alj. My Attorney told me that I have the best case he's seen in years, but that I am my own worst witness, I tend to speak in generalities.

I had J.ginsberg represent me for a hearing today.3/25..I thought he did very well cleaning up my mis-statements..I had a very robotic judge, was'nt nice and asked two open questions..what do you do all day? why did you leave your past job? be carefull how you answer..I answered without explaining pain..credibility is important..I might have a50-50 chance ..it does'nt matter if you have a well doc case your life is judged in 30-45 min on how you explain your pain and limitations...JS

Very helpful post. Clients need to remember all of this when testifying at a disability hearing. I think that item #3 is particularly important. http://gatesdisabilitylaw.typepad.com/blog/2008/06/be-specific-abo.html
